I bought this fireplace from a friend before he moved out of state. It came from his priest home before it was torn down. it came from Elmwood IL. I paid him a $100 bucks for it. it looks like marble, but it is really painted cast iron (i think) kinda looks like the same time frame as the one that is for sale on your "picks for sale" on Antique Archaeology. If that one is worth $400.00... what do you think this one might be worth? We have an old farm house (1895) and wanted a fireplace.. but didn't have one. We have SO many doorways in our home... we coved one doorway with this fireplace.. put a mirror above... put an antique Hutch on the other side of the doorway with another large old mirror above.... and Wa-la... instant fireplace! we're not done yet, (as you can tell by the firebox) but we're working on it. LOVE IT! anyone know anything about this kind of antique fireplace? (not sure what category to place this either :-(
I looked at Antique Archaeology Items for sale page. Child that Mantel does not compare with yours! Hand painted, I would say in my shop, I would have $1500.00- $2,000. on it! Dave
Cool! Thanks Dave! U made my day! Sharon
Just another question about this. does anyone know how I would go about telling if this was made around 1900? Thanks Sharon
You can't be exact on this, it is from the period. To say exactly 1900??? Could be 1890-1910 era. Dave
Thanks so much Dave. we put it in our 1895 farm house.. I just wanted to know if it went with that time period. Thanks for taking the time to let me know! Sharon
