I don't get the difference between 'fine' jewelry and 'costume' jewelry.
I posted a pendant with a red stone earlier this evening, but it was no silver so I put it with 'costume'. But is this pendant any better because it is silver?
This pendant has been sitting in my collection for some years. It has no markings but it tested as silver. I 'm not sure, but I think the blue 'stone' is once again just plain and simple cut glass.
They made loads of pendant like these ones in the twenties, but you just don't find these pieces as much anymore. I guess everybody who has some of them just keeps them. I don't blame them, I love that style!
So I'll just take care for it and keep it for my daughters.
The difference between fine and costume jewelry is the metal content and the stone that is set in the piece. This is sterling and Topaz or Zircon. Very lovely!!
Thanks musikchoo, Agram.m, Moonstonelover21 and Hunter for the love
Moonstonelover21, I know that difference, but I dont always agree with it.
Some costume jewelry is set with precious stones, some fine jewelry has glass stones...and I don't think plain silver is thàt much more expensive than the rodium plating some high quality costume jewelry has.
Newtimes, I totally agree with you about the mislabeling of jewelry. I have found the neatest pieces that everyone thought were costume because of the metal they were mounted into! I am happy to meet another jewelry lover who is not judging a piece because its set into a low cost metal :)
Its the beauty, style and quality that makes jewelry 'fine jewelry'.
Wow, nice to meet someone with the same ideas!
it's a beauty very elegant. It resembles a pendant i published earlier inherited from my grandmother with a hepatite stone, silver and marcasites.
Agram, I looked it up and you are right, it is very familiar to mine.
Its hard to look up a piece of jewelry: you posted so much wonderfull pieces!
I ran across your nice silver and amethyst ring. I will post a bracelet I have that has the same color of amethyst as your ring.
Thanks bratjdd, vetraio50, manikin and valentino97 for loving my pendant
