This is a great lidded compote or vase from approximately 1930 made by Ernst & Steinwald. I enjoy how much work can go into decorating a piece of glass. I also imagine the poor conditions of the factories and the morale of the workers making these things for pennies (while mass production of mold blown depression glass was all the rage). Hand blown with two separate pieces made to fit together (but they rarely fit perfectly).

For the base: a base color of amber glass is drip decorated in orange then spiral decorated in yellow threading. A foot of orange tango spun in a mold and fitted hot to the top portion, the base is cut and allowed to cool.

For the top: the same exact process. Then the three rims are ground down and polished. I imagine this was a gift filled with licorice or pastilles. I paid almost nothing for this dish and that is why I had feelings for all the work that went into it right before WW II...
