    (807 items)

I picked this up today. The guy threw it in basically for free with some other things. He knows his stuff so I am guessing it isn't anything really special. When I got home I just couldn't get over how detailed it is. There are some markings, which I either can't read the language or can't read clearly. Looks Hebrew? I am guessing this is a brass piece?

It is very interesting, even if something very common. Thanks for the help everyone! Have a great night!

thank you AR8Jason, anyone have a clue what this is? THanks!

Nah its not common at all, you got yourself a very nice little brooch. Its Hebrew, Judaica, and I think it might be silver actually. Its hard to tell from the photos, but silver does tarnish that color. Throw some acid on it, and let me know!

Great thanks AR8Jason! Stillwater, I had the same thought it might be old silver, but sometimes I get tricked by new, "Chico's" type things. I will do a test later. Thanks everyone!

In addition, there are many stones on it. I could not get a good enough photo to highlight them, though. I will try again in a different box later.

I added some more pictures in a different post here:

Flip the Hebrew text around 180 degrees in photo 4.
That will help someone identify it.

the third pic looks like this might be hallmarked with the egyptian date stamp -- here is a website you can check out to see what you think -- very pretty brooch

That will be the trick B.Hock! I agree with epson233 about the Egyptian mark too! It will be silver. The work is so fine.
Can you check the number of letters for me?

      I count 7 letters.

      Is that right?
    11. Stillwater Stillwater, 12 years ago
Epson, what is making you think its Egpytian? Don't you see the Hebrew there? They speak Arabic in Egypt

This is a piece of Israeli Judaica .800 filigree "peasant silver" from before 1948. I've seen that mark before, it says "yerushalem," which means "Jerusalem."

So 8 letters! Thank you stillwater!
There is a mark for Israel here:
      http://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks2.html
      Check out what you think.
      "Israel
      c.1950s to 1970s
Usually with "Israel" and sometimes a maker's mark.
      More information is needed. "

Yeah you got it V, that's definitely what the mark on the catch is
    14. vetraio50 vetraio50, 12 years ago
      Thanks Stillwater. Is it Bezalel?
    15. Stillwater Stillwater, 12 years ago
      Can't really be sure
    16. BHock45 BHock45, 12 years ago
Is it possible to put a date on this piece? Stillwater, can you estimate? I am not 100 percent sure the mark on the catch is the same, although it is similar, to the date mark seen on this page: http://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks2.html

Vetraio50, do you think I should clean? Or is this another, no toucher.
    18. BHock45 BHock45, 12 years ago
Oh I see, disregard the first question you guys already dated it, 1950ish. Thanks!

Stillwater, just to confirm you are correct, it is silver! When I am finished cleaning I will post a new picture! Thanks so much, you are the best!

I added some new pictures of the cleaned piece. What a difference a wash makes! Enjoy.
