This leather tintype album measures about 3 1/2" X 2" and holds gem sized tintypes. The album has 12 pages and could hold 48 images.

It was never completely filled and the original owner chose not to put images back to back. That decision most likely saved the binding and unlike most albums the pages are not separating from the binding.

Overall it is in remarkable condition and holds 17 total images.

Reproduction of these images in any form is prohibited.

Would these have been produced in this size so that people could easily carry the album with them?

Thanks for the comments david. I would think that the novelty of a "miniature photo album" was primary, but certainly portability could have been part of the decision as well.

Original sales literature or patent information may shed some light on this discussion.
