Vintage Art Print published by Raymond & Rissling Inc New York 14" x 30" There is no date and would love to know the original artist? Could it be Waterhouse or Collier? What is the subject perhaps Elizabeth 1 becoming Queen with Mary Queen of Scotts watching on?
This is by Edwin Austin Abbey (1852-1911). King Lear: Cordelia's Farewell.
He did a series of murals for the Boston Public Library depicting Galahad and his search for the Holy Grail. I found this because I have a large print by the same publisher. Mine is Castle of the Maidens (one of the murals).
Hello,
You mentioned having the print 'Castle of the Maidens'. Would you be able to share how you found it or know if other copies exist for sale? I am looking for any official prints of Abbey's work.
Thank you!
I found a print of Edwin Austin Abbeys panel 012 of the Holy Grail Mural. Printed by Raymond and Rissling Inc. 30" x 38". How old is it and are these rare? Thanks, Ken
Hello kepatt,
I would love to see or have you describe what is in the panel. I believe they are somewhat rare though the demand doesn't seem to be high since many are unfamiliar with Abbey. I have picked up a couple of different prints for $50-65. What is the condition of the print? Do you own it or just see it somewhere?
Thanks!
I dont own it anymore! Thanks
Everything is decribed in the listing I believe!
A man in a red robe on a white horse holding a white flag with a red cross and people bowing and celebrating around him. I purchased the piece at an estate sale thinking it was a Howard Pyle.
Yes, that is Galahad the Deliverer. I do own that particular one. It's a great piece. Abbey was a contemporary of Pyle. Though unfortunately less celebrated than Pyle. Probably due to lack of exhibitions in the US. Yale owns a majority of his art but aren't doing anything with it. Sad for me as he is a favorite. Depending on the condition and price I'd be interested in your Galahad print. Mine was not well cared for over the years. Let me know if you care to sell or ever list it on ebay :)
Otherwise, kick back and enjoy one of the best artists! If I can be of further help, please get in touch. Best!
Pyle and Abbey both died in 1911. My print is in nice shape except it has been mounted on a board for framing. The frame is long gone. Thanks for the info, I am now an Abbey fan.
Thank you
