Both of these men wear the maltese cross insignia for Medical Corps.
The man on the left wears a dress uniform with "US" insignia as well as the maltese cross. Additionally, he has shoulder boards.
His partner is wearing a tan uniform that was typical of wear in the theater of operations. Interestingly, he is wearing a CIVILIAN Hat instead of an issue hat!
This image most likely dates from 1898. There is no photographer's information on the mount.
