Can anyone tell me about this gorgeous trunk I just bought. What is the exterior made of? It mushes like leather. The drawer pulls are leather and I the drawers appear to be of the same python looking leather. It is in fabulous condition. The locks are Yale and Towne and there is a smaller copper tag that suggests the manufacturer could be RUGGED from Newark. The shop manager I bought it from thinks it dates to the 1910's to 1920 but had a renovation in the 40's. The locks work but I have no keys.
Thank you for ANY help!
Looks like the exterior is made of vulcanized paper -- which is a typical material for this type of trunk and its age (the dating is about right). I do not think any renovation has been done to the interior of this trunk -- they made them beautiful like this at the time. Nice example of a wardrobe trunk. Thanks for the post!
