Lee became the great Southern hero of the War, a postwar icon of the "Lost Cause of the Confederacy" to some. But his popularity grew even in the North, especially after his death in 1870. He remains an iconic figure of American military leadership. The General Lee car was in the show "The Dukes of Hazzard" and is one of my favorite shows to watch growing up as a kid. YeeHaa!

Thanks Trey, he died in 1870, I'm not sure if this was done before or after he died, good question!
Try to open up the back of it there could be something written on the back to date it. I was taking pics out of frames one day and in the frame that had my grandmas brothers photo in it was the front page of a Atlanta newspaper dated 1910 really cool guess I should post it.
I wouldn't mess with the back of this if you are just trying to date it.
Based on the frame and matting style (similar to albumen matting), I would think that this is from the 1870s-- probably done to capitalize on an eager market after his death.
Researching James Hummel will probably yield specific years that he worked.
