I just got this in today-- I was elated to get it!
It is a short autographed note from Theodore Roosevelt, signed while he was governor of NY and the recent Vice President ELECT! Within a year of this note he was President.
The note is typed on the NY State Governor's letterhead and was sent to the Territorial Governor of New Mexico, Miguel A. Otero. In the note, Roosevelt thanks Otero for his telegram (presumably a congratulatory telegram for the election, which was held four days earlier).
Governor Otero had a connection with Roosevelt during the Spanish American War. Several troops of Roosevelt's Rough Riders were raised in New Mexico with the assistance of Otero.
The top of the note has been stamped by Governor Otero's office showing that a response was sent to Roosevelt.
While not as valuable as an autograph signed while President, I still consider this to be a treasure due to the content and circumstances.
