Brass part of buckle appears to have been gilt at one time, bar to right of insignia may indicate rank, size approx 2" X 3 1/2"....yet another flea market find (NYC-those were the days!) , no provenance, no nuthin'
I am fairly certain the buckle is from Turkey. The military ones I have seen had only the star and crescent.
Thanks, Dr.e13----appreciate the message....I sort of thought the same, but wanted to hear from someone.....yours, Philip
I spoke too soon. You have Shriner's belt buckle.
Could the top be a Eagle or a bird at least of some sort.
It is a scimitar. A type of curved mideastern sword. It is a Shriner's emblem.
Minus the scimitar the buckle would be Turkish or Ottoman.
