what is this? Dont think Shriner-no Sphinx head on crescent, non-symmetrical shape. Is is Arabic military?

    Brass part of buckle appears to have been gilt at one time, bar to right of insignia may indicate rank, size approx 2" X 3 1/2"....yet another flea market find (NYC-those were the days!) , no provenance, no nuthin'

      I am fairly certain the buckle is from Turkey. The military ones I have seen had only the star and crescent.

      I spoke too soon. You have Shriner's belt buckle.

      Could the top be a Eagle or a bird at least of some sort.

      It is a scimitar. A type of curved mideastern sword. It is a Shriner's emblem.
      Minus the scimitar the buckle would be Turkish or Ottoman.
