Webb Amethyst Posy Bowl

This is a Thomas Webb amethyst posy bowl in Venetian ripple pattern from the Gay series glass of the 1930s. You can see this posy vase has been used a lot.

Nowadays everyone buys flowers with stems, but before the war many people either picked them wild or grew their own, and they didn't always have long stems that would go in a vase. For these flowers you sued a posy vase like this. Quite a few makers produced this type of posy vase with a broad lip in the 19202 and 30s. Posy vases are deeply unfashionable and can usually be bought for a few pounds. The Webb and Whitefriars ones are usually a bit more than that, but still cheap.

I suppose another reason they are not fashionable is that for collectors they don't display very well, as they are short and wide and fill the shelf quick for not much show, unlike vases.
