This is a brass wall hanging salt pocket, circa late 18th century to early 19th century.
This would have hung up a kitchen wall and been used to add pinches salt to whatever was being made. The kind of stylised flaming shape is typical of Georgian mirrors and picture frames of that period. I have photographed rivets on the back to show how hand made it is as they have hammered to different sizes.
This is a really nice domestic object. Love it!
