I have this old presentation walking cane from 1916 that belonged to my husbands great uncle there is a mark on there I have no clue as to what it is and under this it has the numbers 1194 and a number 1 in a diamond does anyone know what this means? I can not find anything that says what karot of gold it is. HELP???
First off, it looks like a lovely cane from what I can see. Secondly, are you sure it's gold? Third, what is the mark next to the diamond I can't make it out?
The mark almost looks like a fat "S" with a diagnal line thru it it is worn down so it is hard to tell. Yes I agree it could be brass since there are no gold count on it anywhere. But yes it is lovely.
Perhaps it is gold plated. The top looks silver in the picture. Is it or is that the picture?
Jackieblue it just looks silver in the picture it is all gold
I have a feeling it's Polish, made of vermeil silver. You may get a better response if you post it in one of the antique silver forums. BTW, what's the spelling of Joseph's last name?
davyd286 Joseph Quirin ... thanks for your help. Joseph Quirin and his brother Eugene Quirin had a Wine and Spirits grocery store in Manchester New Hampshire after a while they both went their own ways doing other things. They were both pillars of the community. They came to the US from Steige, France.
No thats definitely solid gold. The second photo looks silver because the white balance is off
