I have this box and want to know if anyone knows what it may have been used for. It's about 14 inches long, maybe 4 inches deep. I love it because I am a tattoo artist and the early modern tattoo machines were designed after Edison's doorbell design which as you can see, is in the hood of this box. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Strange device, external wire connections & switch, but room in box for more than just the bell. Low voltage as wires are routed through the hinges, very strange setup.
It almost reminds me of a home made telephone or telegraph linemen test set. It has the lighting arrester and a bell for signaling.
Maybe the extra space is for a dry-cell battery. Maybe an early school bell or similar use.
Has anybody else noticed that "maybe" seems to be my favourite word?
I had thought of that but it doesn't make sense that the wire connectors are on the outside.
There is something missing from it but I don't know what, I don't see any holes for anything else that would be mounted inside. With a triple latch & heavy handle you would think it was meant to secure more than a bell.
I was looking at where the handle screws came thru as the wire connections. Need a better pic of the inside end of the box. Surely held a dry-cell. It's late here.
B'buss your eyes are tired, the wire connectors & switch can be seen on the end of the box in pic #2.
I think it's time to shut this box for the night.
J' comprende.
I have something similar, mine came from a Doctors office, it was part of a set, one box like this, the other has 4 separate silinoids that drop a number. The person at the desk would place someone in a room , press the button for that room, number would drop and buzzer would sound in the Doctor's private room. Then he would know which room to go to.
thanks everyone, especially kerry, helped alot, gives a 2nd story to it :)
