My family moved to Ireland in 1973 from Australia, departing Circular Quay, Sydney on the 20th of February,
arriving in Southampton on the 25th of March. I was just ten then, and a voyage on board the Shota Rustaveli of which I shall never forget. Sydney, Auckland, Tahiti and through the Panama canal on to Southampton. 5 glorious weeks at sea. She was a small ship in comparison to the monstrosities of today, and by the end of the voyage, everyone pretty much knew everyone, including the crew. How I wish I could turn the clock back to re-live those few weeks. It was brilliant. Life then was very simple.
