A WWII book by Lieutenant-Commander Robert Hitchens, DSO, DSC, RNVR. This is the tales of Robert Hitchens as he fought in Torpedo Gun Boats against similar enemies in the English Channel during the first half of WWII.
This might be considered an unfinished work as the author was killed in action in 1943 after 3 years in action. It has real gritty action, but more interesting is the authors thoughts on politicians, running the country, and the changes he would like to see after war. I think the fact that they published what seems to be his unvarnished thoughts whilst the war was still going on is amazing. The talk of impeachment of incompetent politicians who got them in this mess by deception still rings true today. This book has a real grain of social history in it, and what they, people who were fighting and dying for us thought, and what kind of country they would like to live in.
Buy this book if you get the chance and read it to the end. My copy is pretty rough, but only cost £1, what an amazing bargain for some real history.
