Here is a wonderful and rare agate brooch that I bought in a little seaside town on the southwest coast of Scotland. It is rutilated quartz which is clear quartz that has titanium oxide in it. It's called hair stone agate there although it is also known as Venus' hair stone. It is used metaphysically to improve energy flow, promote mental clarity and dispel negative energy of any kind. The town was interesting - when I asked at the B&B if there was a phone, the proprietress said "Of course we have a phone - it's down at the Pharmacy and you will be able to use it anytime after the Pharmacy opens at 9am". I then asked incredulously if there was only one phone in town. She replied (as if I was 'daft') "Of course not; there's a phone at the tourist bureau and another one at the fish plant"......hmmm....now here's a place to get away from it all. Working there, however, was a challenge, cut off completely from my computer, the 'road warrior'. The shop was a bit peculiar, with all kinds of strange things and a huge glass case of Scottish agate jewelry. I wanted the bloodstone brooch, but the shop owner insisted that the hair stone was the one I wanted. There was no difference in price, but I learned later that the hair stone is much rarer than the bloodstone. My brooch is set in silver (marked) and has a simple c clasp on the back. I'm not sure how old it is, but it is surely a classic celtic design. I wear it often, but I am not sure it makes me think any clearer when I am feeling scattered! I love it anyway. Oh yes - it's warm to the touch too.

Glad you liked it niknak42 - the picture does not really show how beautiful it is with the golden threads running through it that sparkle in the light. I like to wear it on something white so that it can really be appreciated.
