This is a silver memento cross from 1917, during the first World War. I found it together with some victorian charms on a flea market some years ago.
Sint Pieters Buiten is not so far from where I live.
I'm not sure it has anything to do with the war, we will never know for sure. De Vreese is a very common name in this country.
The cross is very thin and not really even. The carving is crude, almost as if someone in the trenches did it.
I never wear it, but I do like it. Especially the little heart with arrow. This must be done with real love.
Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks inky, Phildavid, vetraio50, Bhock45, Manikin, Blunderbuss2 and mustangtony for your love!

Hi Newtimes - any chance you might be interested in parting with the cross....I am making a memorial for my grandfather and great uncle - both were in Belgium during WWI - my grandfather came back but my great uncle did not.
Antiquarius, sorry I only just now read your comment. Its great you are making a memorial. So many people died here in Belgium during that war.
I dont really want to let the cross go, I only post objects from my personal collection that are dear to me.
I would love to help you if you need pictures or info or some other things about Belgium.
Do you know we still do a remembrance for the people who died during WWI? Every day at 20.00h they play the 'Last Post' on trumpet in Ypres at the Menin Gate.
We also have a Flanders Fields museum.
