    Hello to All,

I have not posted in quite sometime.

Here is a replica (a COPY) of a $20 Gold Coin reportedly issued by The Confederate States of America. The idea was proposed in 1861 for the coin to be struck at the mint in New Orleans. It was a rumor some coins were struck but there is no evidence to support the stories.

So the best you can find on the market is a COPY (often called "Fantasy Coin"). Essentially, all of these CSA gold coins are replicas. What makes this one stand out is the nice detail (a good strike) and it appears to be older.

Pictured on the front of the coin is Lady Liberty seated with the Confederate States shield in her left hand. In her right hand is the flag of freedom and to her immediate right is a sugar hogshead, a bale of cotton and a bale of tobacco. Behind Lady Liberty is a field of sugar cane and also a field of cotton and tobacco growing in various stages.

The Southern States of the Confederacy were mainly agricultural. While the Northern States of the Union were industrial.

Over the years, I have seen many American Civil War sites and I become more fascinated by the subject as time goes by.

Thank you mustangtony. These replicas are a dime a dozen but this one had a nice, deep strike.

I just won an auction on Ebay for a 1861 CSA Half Dollar. It looks very old and there is a lot of mystery around it. The half dollar may be a replica but either a very early replica or an early counterfeit. I am excited to receive it in the mail!

I don't count on it being much more than a replica because there were only 4 known originals struck in New Orleans and the other 500 were "restrikes" by a man known as SCOTT. You can purchase one of these "restrikes" for around $10000 to $20000. So if I happen to find the one I bought is a SCOTT restrike, then I can only make around $15000. I'll never sell if this is the case - too priceless!
