WOW! I was excited when I found this. I have never seen US Sailors on Horseback before. The Chief (high ranking enlisted man wearing the button up suit coat with neck tie & shoulder rank) seems to be awfully casual, as his tunic is unbuttoned. The other sailor is not wearing any duty or cartridge belt. Both of those clues lead me to believe that perhaps these two may be on "Liberty", as opposed to Shore duty.
Also notice the conditions of the two "street Urchins" and how poorly dressed they are. Perhaps stable boys? Unknown where this was taken, obviously in a 3rd world country somewhere. I am going to guess Haiti or Cuba.....
Nice rare RPPC for the collection, as I try to collect images of armed Sailors, being former U.S. Navy my self.....
Great Postcard tlmbaran I love it !
Thanks Manikin!!
Nice image. Agree with all of your observations: liberty and location.
