    (584 items)

Part of this set is already known by you: when I posted most of my Strömbergshyttan collection there was a picture of this cigarette holder and a square ashtray (http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/47226-strmbergshyttan-ashtrays-and-cigarette?in=collection-127) and although it is an unsigned item, Rebessin identified it as the H95 cigarette case. But I recently got the matching ashtray, which made me very happy, as these two were the very first Strömbergshyttan items I ever saw.

I found them at a Swedish online shop when I was living in Miami and I never dared buying it because of the long distance... so when I came back in Spain I visited the website with the intention of buying them... but they had been sold already :( That usually happens, doesn't it?

I have got other complete ashtray and cigarette case sets, all of them bought piece by piece, never as a set, and this is the first set I've got in the same colour, so that's one more reasson for it being so special for me.

Nice you got one in the same color!
I Think the two were designed about 1963-64, after what I can see in the catalogs. But the model were still in production in the mid 1970s. The color is X 75, sargasso green. I have no data about the designer, but either Nylund or Asta for sure. Rune Strand started in Strombergshyttan 1963 as engraver and designer, but he did most sculptures and engaving patterns/motives. Some vases in more modern style are also his design.

      Thanks Rebessin,

Well, the colour is actually gray, although the image has a little yellow tone that might make it look green, but I think I have an item in the kind of green you mention ("saragasso green" sounds really great ).

Such a pity there is no record of who designed each piece... maybe it is related to what I read about Edvard Strömberg's attitude about not giving importance to the designer (even when it was his own wife who did most of it at the time)?

So the green Sargasso refers to a green sea colour?
The use of Sargasso by various companies interests me.

to vetraio... in this case is that kind of colour, but I am sure you have in mind Kaj Franck's bubble glass items of the same name.

It looks more like Asta Stromberg design, than Gunnar Nylund, as I see it. The clean lines falls back to similar vases and bowls by Gerda Stromberg, and Asta was inspired by Gerda and renewed many of her models in her own way. I'm therfore quite sure, these are Asta Stromberg models.

Thanks rebessin! Well, at some point I always think of these as Asta's designs... you now, there's this very simple idea that's not always true: geometical=Asta; organic= Gunnar... but I am very glad you can confirm this :)
