I am fascinated by these decoupage cats. I have seen them online before and have always been curious about them. Today I found one in a thrift store and had to buy it.
From what I have researched these are from the 1970s. They are really heavy and might have been intended to function as door stops. All of the ones for sell online are described as folk art.
I am really curious about the history and origin of these decoupage cats. They are folk art in a sense that they are all different but there are various cats like this one. All of them are a similar shape and have a felt bottom base.
One interesting aspect of this piece is that it is missing the hard laquer over the fabric that all the other ones I have seen have. Does this mean it was not finished?
If you know any information about these really cool cats please share! These cats are so funky and quirky. Who would think to make these?
