This first-rate piece is about 15" long and 11" tall. He seems to be very old, but in great condition - all original paint. i'm a little confused about his very graphic backside - like maybe he had some use beyond a garden ornament, maybe? a farm demo or something? any suggestions?

but why are his... 'bolas' black?
He's been wallowing in the mud of course, difficult to keep those 'bolas' clean!
Ears, tail and snout aren't usually black either. He's "Special". RER
