I got these crate labels several years ago. I saw them at an old books fair and couldn't help it, I fell in love with their colours, the drawing, the naivety of the scenes... I have been wanting to find more of this kind but I know I shouldn't start any other collection, really! :)
These were made by Vicente Ros, from Cartagena (the port city in South East Spain where my mother's father was born in 1900). He was a local painter born in 1887. In 1910 he moved to Madrid, where he lived until 1931, when he returned to Cartagena. My guess is these works must be from his first years there. There is another label I don't have "yet" (but I will) that shows the Spanish Republican flag (our flag between 1931 and 1939 was red, yellow and purple instead of the red, yellow and red we have nowadays), so there's no doubt they are from that period.
