Found at a yard sale over the weekend for $35, and although I've never sewn anything other than the occasional button, I had to bring it home. The table itself is stamped Aug, 6 1968 and is in great condition. The sewing machine is a New Home manufactured by Janome sewing machine company in Japan. The idea of a rapidly moving needle in close proximity to my finger as accident prone as I am just doesn't seem like a good move, but maybe i'll try to learn. Either way, I think its nice to look at :)
Great find ! These machines are known as a clone of a class 15 machine . I have my grandmother's . They are great little machines and every bit as well made as the Singers or Janomes plus they have drop feed dogs .I hope you got the instruction book with it , if not I could send you a copy of one that would work with your machine . My machine will sew just about anything . I have it set up right now making a lap quilt for a friend . Just be careful to keep your finger out of the way of the needle when your foot is on the controler and you should be fine . I love the blue color of yours . Mine is green .
Thank you DobbinDee70. I actually bought 2 that day from the same sale for the same price. The other is a Singer, and I bought it first, but got home and couldn't stop thinking about this one. The plan was I would decide which one I wanted to keep and find someone who wanted the other, but the plan hasn't worked because I can't decide. They did come with manuals, but thank you very much for offering a copy. I do think it would be nice to learn, who knows...maybe I found a new hobby.
kygurl32 : I forgot to tell you even though the cabinet your machine came in is stamped 1968 , I believe the machine itself was made in the 1930's . Someone could have put it into the newer cabinet for some reason .
This machine dates to the 1960's, and is probably contemporary with the cabinet, despite it's older styling. The takeover of New Home by Janome didn't happen until 1960 http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/AboutJanome
