This handmade studio piece is a little over 12" long and 6" high. I'm going to assume mid-century, but i have no idea. It's beautifully made w/ fine anatomical detail and plenty of interesting character. Unfortunately, i can't find a signature on it, but it seems distinctive enough that someone would be able to identify the maker. This piece was bought in Oakland, CA.
thanks bellin68. i really like it too.
Could be a bad acid trip! Or maybe patient at old state hosp., dual diagnosis, with autism! He does look happy and pre-occupied in his world. I really like him. Maybe lobotomy! Reminds me of the three State Hosp. I worked at in the 70's and 80's.
I agree 100% w/ bratjdd and phildavidalexandermorris. it's a very soulful piece! i can tell that the person who made it is/was a master with incredible talent. i think i have another piece by the same artist - just a foot. i hope i can figure out who made it! i just put some better, outdoor photos of it up.
Love it!...:-)
reminds me of Mavis Mclure - who has a connection to the east bay.
does anyone else think that this may be by Mavis Mclure?
Maybe? http://www.modernsculpture.com/mcclure.htm
i got a note back from Mavis Mclure's partner and he said that it's definitely not Mavis's work, but it is a beautiful piece. So the hunt for the artist is still on...
