This is a lovely delicate art deco bar pin by Ward Brothers. I am guessing it is amethyst as this was as stone used extensively in their designs. However, it is rather pale purple so maybe it could possibly be something else. It is nicely cut and is in very good condition. The bezel for the stone is embossed with a fairly complex design, and the claws are fountain shaped and sweep up and over the stone - in my view the feature that most looks like art deco on the pin. There is a little scrolled design on the front on each side of the stone. The pin is marked "E" for Edinburgh. The detailed design of the pin is much more complex than the more modern designs by Ward Brothers - I have some of my mothers Ward Brothers sterling curling pins from the 50s and compared their design to this pin - really no comparison. A very sweet and delicate little pin.
I love the pin...and yes its Amethyst! I love the pale Amethyst they used to use back when :) I collected a few pale Amethysts..you are very blessed to have nice pieces from your mother :)))
The light coloured Amethysts name is Rose De France. My favourite!!!
Thank you Lee for the information and appreciation. I also love the pale amethyst as in your Victorian mourning locket. Rose de France sounds very romantic don't you think?
