Found this Victorian Era French Barbotine (term for the applied decoration) Majolica centerpiece at the "Salvation Army Family Store" . I winced when I took it off the shelf expecting to see an insane price on it but it was only $7.99 !! I would say it's 99% intact,which is surprising on something this delicate and fussy.I think they take greater care at Salvation than Goodwill does. This would have been really worse for wear if Goodwill had it . Yes there are tiny chips and nicks and two pieces of leaf edge missing (but they look old and discolored not recent) and with all the delicate work they are barely visible. It looks like an old piece. It measures 12" in length and 5" at it's center. The interior cream colored glaze is crazed. There are no "major "missing or broken decorations. I think it's beautiful if a bit extravagant. Not everyone's taste I know. There are a bunch of numbers on the "unglazed" bottom (4102,23,6 ). Thanks, -Mike-
Seems like I have a starting point. I was told it is probably German majolica, also called "Continental Majolica" .The best examples are by Wilhelm Schiller and Son, but not all are marked . She also said "I suspect it would fetch at least a few hundred dollars depending on where it would be sold! That eye of yours is in full gear!" So I guess the mystery is solved just need to research the details ! -Mike-
Well I've narrowed it down to being " Victorian French Barbotine Majolica " circa 1890's. Barbotine is the French term for ceramic slip or a mixture of clay and water for moulding or decorating pottery. This technique was used to create applied adornments on 19th century majolica items. Here are two pictures of similar pieces to mine. The little basket is selling for $265.00 on Ruby Lane !! The centerpiece (small picture) was sold so I couldn't find the price. I've seen some centerpieces selling in the $ 300.00 to $600.00 and up range !! These are ball park figures depending on the maker,design and what the market will bare,but I figure mine is a complete "homerun" !! -Mike-

Not really.... it all goes into the "treasure vault" (my walk in closet off the bath....lol) No more room either. One big exception though. I finally got my 18th century hunting scene bowl relisted this week with a lower reserve. If it doesn't sell my sister offered to pick it up for me. She lives in New Jersey but commutes to New York everyday to work. I tell her she's nuts !

Every now and then I stick something up on Ebay but the hassle is not worth it after costs are taken out.
Thought about at Etsy store - nah, couldn't be bothered...
Had a few goes at a market but everything sold for less than I probably bought it for. After a while I just cleared things. I figured I had already got value from just owning things and looking at them.
So now I'm just keeping most stuff!
My daughter thinks I'm mad (that's OK she's 16 so would think that anyway) and my 13 year old son is more of a hoarder than me so doesn't care.
Shaun, my partner, hoards motorbikes. I think we had about 14 in various states at one time. It's down to about 8 now! A bit of glass and stuff just doesn't take up the same room (or money) so I'm good!

I think since Ken got me started on this jewelry thing it's been a blessing in disguise. It takes up very little space and the right pieces can have a big return on your investment if your lucky enough to find the good stuff. I still can't turn down anything I really like though. I've packed up boxes too to make space for just that "One" more piece. There's going to be one heck of an estate sale here someday !
I'm with you guys. I'd keep every single piece I have but hubby is not down with that gameplan. That's why I do a couple of vintage markets a year. I have never sold anything online but am beginning to wonder if it might be easier. I have a couple of secret collections and just snuck several pieces (West German pottery) into the house.

Hi Amber :).....I don't usually go for all the outdoor crowds and the pushing and shoving on a hot Summer day. Need my AC 24-7....lol. I think you might mean the West Side Market in Cleveland. I think along with the food venders the may have a flea market there as well. Never been to either. It's about 30 miles to Cleveland from were I live. We have a local one that's very popular called "Jamie's " and that's just up the street from where I live, about 3 miles. It has indoor and outdoor venders and anyone can rent space if it's available. They're only open Saturday and Wednesday from 7 AM to 4 PM. Always packed, horrible dusty or muddy unpaved parking except in the very front which is always full of course. I used to go to that but got burned out after 30 odd years. It's kind of touristy now people come from all over. I'll go once a year maybe if that. :)

Hmmm.... that's something new to me and it seems to be coming up soon. Looks like a showcase for local businesses. Interesting. Cleveland suffers from such bad PR even with the Rock Hall of Fame, the orchestra and the art museum. Glad to see things like this. :)
