This old stone item was my Dad's. He found it in an old barn dating back to 1800's. An Antique dealer in the 1960's told my Dad it was some kind of old Indian artifact. The stone is speckled, 5" high....bottom is 3 1/2" dia.....the top is 1 1/2" dia. the top has an x on it! Any help identifing this would be appreciated.
Appears to be an old hand grinder (probably Indian) for grain etc. Nice artifact.
i have around a dozen old stone molcajetes and tejolotes in my collection and none of them are like this one - or even close. i think that it probably is some type of grinding stone or possibly kneading stone. the X is very distinctive.
