I purchased this doll at an antique mall. It is of FDR however I believe he is missing his cane. I wonder if anyone has ever seen a doll like this. I am not aware of the maker but may possibly be a WPA doll from the late 30's, early 40's. This doll stands approx 10" in height. His face is made of leather and is painted by a skilled artisan. This doll has a fantastic resemblance to FDR. His hands, arms and face are leather. His feet and legs are made of wood. The doll's torso is made from some type of paper material. The Doll's apparel is finely tailored and has not been cleaned or washed. No holes or tears but has some stains and discoloration due to age. I haven't really taken his clothes off to look for any specific markings but this doll is definitely a rare gem.
What a nice find ! He appears to be home made or a cottage industry figure . As a rule WPA ususally marked their dolls and they were used to teach in schools about different countries and dressed in ethnic clothes . He is very interesting Not sure if he is FDR but seems to have been made to be part of a display and at one time may have had a lady with him . Looks like from the 40,s . Love him !
