This is a painting my Mother did in 2008 of my Show Jumper "Dutch" and myself during one of our Shows in Santa Barbara, California. I was about 23 at that time. He was a horse that was imported from Holland when he was 3 years old. When he arrived in America he was put to the test and in training with a trainer that was famous/infamous for making or breaking a horses spirit. I got him when he was 9 and totally destroyed. He was so abused you could not put a halter nor a bridle/saddle on him. He would go into a cold sweat and shake when he saw a human. I had him for 11 years and was jumping him 4-5 foot fences. He was the love of my life.
My Mother, Reiko painted him running free in Malibu, Ca. at the barn we were at. She has a PHD in Ikebana, Oil, Pastel, and Clay. From the finest Art School in Japan. This is just one of her artworks that she has done. I hope you enjoy.....I will post more of her artwork of Bengal Tigers and horses.
BELLIN68, thank you for the loving and wonderful comment:)))
You saved the life of a beautiful creature - you should be very proud of that. The paintings are beautiful.
antiquarius123, thank you for saying that. He was soo special to me. I was afraid of him for the first year or so...you would be riding him and he would spook thinking something was going to hurt him again. I was able to ride him bareback in a halter and jump him...he was so smooth. Thank you for being so wonderful with you attention with my personal pieces...love to hear your thoughts :))
That touched my heart I hate any sort of cruelty to animals.... having your lovely painting he will always be with you as will your mother!...:-)
inky, I do too and the reason he was so abused was because he came from Olympic bloodlines and they pushed him beyond reason as a young horse. They hotwired the fences and put nails on them ...so if he touched the fence he would either be electrified or hurt. He had a old wound on his neck from the nails going through is throat while jumping as a baby. They even grabbed his ear to subdue him..called "Eared" so you cannot touch his face after that. And twitching...when they grab his upper lip to torture a horse into submission with a an instrument like a nut cracker...with a string to on the tension. I hate horse people who do any of that....so sad!
officialfuel, thank you for your loving !!!
I can't believe that!..but! then again I can we humans are the cruellest of creatures to animals and each other!..what you just said made me very sad I could feel his pain and most of all …his fear!...:-(
inky, thank you I did to....that is why I did not give him back to them. Even though he was so difficult to train and gain his trust. He would dump me at a jump for fear of getting hurt. Or I would have to stand on 2 milk crates to put a rope around his neck to get him out of the stall. He was my heart and soul...dearly missed. Have not been able to another horse because I miss him so much! Thank you for your kind words :)
Do you paint? Your family is gifted! I was brought up around horses. My family showed when I was small. We also had a succession on very mean ponies that were "mine." I think my experiences with those ponies...bit, kicked, squashed against the side of the stall, etc... have made me a bit too leery around horses to enjoy them...lol... I love to look at them. I just don't get to close. Oh, I might mention I was brought up on a racetrack. My father was the GM of a little harness track for over 30 years and we lived on the grounds.
toolate, my art is not painting...but being able to see a horse in a field that could jump the moon...or be a top dressage horse. Or finding neat Antique Jewelry and either restoring it or save it from being melted. I also with the Jewelry Store I work with we recreate Antique pieces that broken into pieces. I love to decorate and design.
