This is a copy of the original artwork done of my Step Great Grandmother who raised me until I was 7. The original in still in our house in Tokyo, Japan. Grandma Chie was the love of my life....she was the best! She was a rebel in Japan in the hey day of" The Flapper Era". She wore the short dresses(past her ankles) and all the Japanese women thought she was scandalous dancing to Jazz! Well this was a painting done by my Great Grandfather. The Japanese line was filled with philanthropy and artists. Hence my mother going to the Art School. This was done around 1910?
What a character she must have been!
AmberRose, she was incredible! She had heart and love to give! She loved my Grandfather. It was also taboo to marry a man who was divorced :0. She was my real mother in many ways. She never had children and I was like her only child. I know you would have liked her! She lived until she was 97. I have some jewelry she gave me...simple pieces that need to be set...one day.
Beautiful

artislove, I concur! She was out of the box in showing affection in the Japanese culture. My mother did not show affection..and it took my Great Grandmother to step up and be a real mother to me:)) I was blessed!
What does the kanji say?
toolate, the stamping is the family crest or last name. You see we come from the direct line of one of the oldest Japanese lineage. We at one time, owned half of Japan. We were the other ruling family in the Tokugawa Era. We were the other ruling family(that was defeated) in the Shogun Era. We have a museum where our Castle stood and a park where our lands were. A bridge and street named after us. I have not been..but my siblings have. Thank you for asking :))
Your family sounds amazing! For the movie version I see maybe Lucy Liu playing both you and your great grandmother... I would buy a ticket!!!
