Elk Antler walking cane, by the looks 1900 -1920 era. Considered folk art. No Folk Art cane will look exactly alike, but there are simular canes around. Dave

There's an elegant curve to it. Wonder what the wood is. And I find it interesting the manner in which the gold rind was tooled as a flat piece and wrapped and nailed. Clearly made by a craftsman, but I would expect a true artisan would have fashiond the ring as a round and fitted it without the nailed seam...

HELLO --HOW IS EVERYBODY?-- I hope all is well!! yes me being a carpenter and stuff--I would have hid the nails the best I could! but if what dizzydave says is true! back then it was all just about putting out a nice pc"-1 at a time! seeing a nail head-wasnt that big of deal! -thats just my 2 cents--as far as the wood--its been on the tip of my toung all morning! and I cant spit it out! --Ive done some work on the south shore and the older smaller houmes/summer homes back in the early 50's -40's -etc"-people would comeout to there house out on the Island-to get away from the city! so the homes on the canels-in there back yard-the middle support of the homes were trees-put into the ground! 1's that wouldnt rot that fast! I think it might have been locast--or elm--im not sure--but a branch of that-would look like this-after it dried up! thats for sure!(im really not 100% sure on that pic of words/trees!)-i dont even know if thay are real trees! for some reason the locast is sticking with me! maybe thats it!! not sure!! but well worth a try! thanks for your help guys!!see if that helps at all! have a good weekend--1 more day!!:)c/dogg
