Found the digital camera, now I can take half-way decent pics!
This was one of my grandfathers pocket watches that I inherited after his death. He was a Marine Corps Colonel and fought in WWII and the Korean War. I just love this watch. I'm so proud of him and his service. I sure do miss him dearly. Just wanted to share the watch. Works perfectly! Thanks for looking.
This watch has some "patina" on it and the silver isn't as shiny as it once was.... should I use a silver cloth to polish it a little or leave the patina alone? Thanks!
I like looking at a nice movement and this one catched my eye. Your grandad must have enjoyed this watch very much. Probably the envy of many. My first watch was bought in Lucerne, Switzerland. My dad bought it for me for my birthday and let me choose it. I still have it 51 years later, kept in a plastic case. You have a very nice souvenir of your grandfather Sir.
Thanks renoir, I'll forgive the "sir" part. :) lol I also have my great-grandfathers pocket watch, but I believe it's over wound. I have pics posted of it too, but they aren't very clear. I'll take some more now that my daughter found our camera (she lost it not long ago) lol Love the story of your watch, if you haven't posted pics, you should! I'd love to see it.
I had it in my hands today as a mattwer of fact. I did not think anyone would care to see a plain watch so I put it away again. There is nothing fancy about it, plain old watch that I simply cannot part with.
Wow i really like this! Very nice piece. IMO I wouldn't polish it just leave it vintage as is and enjoy it!

AR8, thank you SO much for your comments! They mean a lot. My grandfather was a Colonel until the day he died. I just wish I could go back and record all the stories he told me. When you're a kid, you don't much care for old war stories. I regret not soaking it all in when I was younger. I just feel blessed that my daughter was able to get to know him before he passed away. I have some cool pictures of him in the military, I'll post them later today. Thanks again for the info and comments.
I didn't know that the USMC worked for the Navy during the war. That explains a lot! I THINK he flew small plains for bombing raids at some point. I have a picture of him in front of a plane and my dad told me he flew with larger planes (maybe bombers?), but he would turn back before getting to the target because he wasn't actually in the bomber. Would he have been some kind of escort for the bomber?
A very nice watch to have with box and all. My dad was a retired Navy Chief Mineman and we grew up on 24 hr time. We were to be home at 1600 hrs or in civilian time was 4:00 pm.

Great info and advice, thank you so much. I'm getting ready to post a picture of my grandfather and his plane, also a picture of the box that goes with this watch, I had the boxes mixed up. The blue box goes with the watch I gave my dad. I'll upload some pics in a minute. Everything is covered in ice down here in La so I'm stuck in the house today. Thanks again for all the info!!!!
