Linen postcard depicting a streamlined train entering the East Portal of The Moffet Tunnel on the Denver & Rio Grande Railway.
This tunnel negates a dangerous trip over the mountains, and is six miles long.
The card was published by Elmer C. Martin of 739 Marion St., Denver, Colorado. It appears to be a hand tinted item.
Six miles is great distance! I checked and saw now that the really long tunnels are over thirty. But with older technologies and surveying this six miles must surely have been an amazing engineering fea and a tribute to David Moffat's idea. I love the tinting on this card, Ted!
Yes, vetraio, it is a great distance, and there were many unexpected challenges which slowed the job down, as well as adding to its cost. Even with "primitive" tools and technologies, the engineers overcame all problems, and very ably too, as this tunnel is till in excellent working order.
I think that the longer tunnels are in Europe.
It must have been a daunting job to find the exact colors to tint the black and white photographs to look so good!
Thank you for your insightful comments, and also for your love of this card,,,,
Thank you, Petey....

Hello, musikchoo.....thanks for the love!
Very interesting history on the Moffat Tunnel, they not only had to overcome the barrier of the continental divide but the competing interests within the State of Colorado.
Very nice PC Ted!
Thanks, walksoftly....there was a whole host of problems that the were overcome in completing this tunnel. But perseverance overcame them all....
