This painting was painted for my Mother in 1973. Mom had seen Mr. Pletan when she was in High School for a field trip. I was in 9th grade. We took a family trip to the Black Hills and my parents went to the clinic
in Canistota. This painting is different from others my Mom had seen him do. She did not want her painting to have any waterfalls, deer, mountains or buildings. This painting is of a pond where my Mothers family would go fishing when they were children. As she remembered it at the time. The painting was done in a small shop in Canistota, South Dakota. By Brunette Pletan. His work is considered Primitive,, Folk Art Landscape Oil Painting, and he is noted to be "The Worlds Fastest Artist"
It measures about 4' x 2'. Its painted on Masonite 'canvas' and is painted with Menard grade paint brushes and Acrylic Paint. The frame is barn boards from my Father's childhood home.
This painting was given to me when I married and has traveled from South Dakota, to La Crosse, Wisconsin to Kissimmee, Florida and back to Wisconsin.
Beautiful!
