1952 was the year Wurlitzer came out with this monstrous machine. In desperation to compete with Seeburg's 45 rpm music machines, Wurlitzer designed this machine to play 78s or 45s intermixed. It was so mechanically complex that it gave the music operators fits with breakdowns. They only made them the one year and then started working toward the 45 rpm record machines.
I bought this from our local operator in 63 and it had already been out of service a couple years because the newer machines were so much more reliable. I worked for this operator at the time and I put this in my living room. I was single at the time and we had a lot of fun them days. I kept it running until I got married, then it had to go. It stayed in storage till my children were old enough. Then I put the little kids records on it for them to play. It has been in the storage room for 20 years and I just got it out and cleaned it up. Mind you all the lights worked, but I am not going to mess with the mechanics of it for now as I just put surround sound speakers around it and play music off the computer. We are enjoying it in our rec room for the nostalgia.
All I can say is WOW!!!
