Art Deco (?) pair of lamps shaped like hands

I found a pair of these at the junk store down the street. They seem to be brass and chrome and I'm not sure what the black hands are made of. All I know is that they're very heavy and very cool. They have a flat halogen bulb on the top.
About 12" high, base is about 3"x3".
