    I think that this is Victorian and made in India - although i'm not certain. I think that the metalwork is called 'chasing' where a different colored metal alloy is melted onto another one w/ a higher melting point. I'm not sure though. Any other guesses?

      I just gave one of these away to a friend of mine. I never knew either except India, BC right? I have had a set of 3 things, can't find the other two at the moment but had them for over 40 years. Mine were very small, a miniature of this one. (i see now this was 4 yrs ago)

      This is also called Benares Ware - not too old though - maybe 60s-70s.
