    Old cast iron road sign indicating distances and direction for Chatham, New Providence, and Berkley Heights NJ... no paint left, but plenty of cast iron... heavy...
    Don't know where I got it, but I lived in New Providence as a child.. don't remember anything...

      These iron directional signs were installed all over the state in the 1930s. There are very, very few of them left in service, though I still see many of the octagonal posts around. The only town I know of that still proudly maintains these signs on its roads is Cranbury.

      PS - I guess we can deduce that this sign stood on River Road at the intersection of Southern Boulevard. Oh, and I lived in New Providence briefly in the late 90s.
