I recently acquired this watch. Could someone help me identify it. Has from Locle engraved on the metal panel. Key wind. Also has W. M. Hart, Kirksville, Mo in the movement plate. Seems to be a silver case, with the exception of one of the opening metal panels, which is silvered over brass. Can someone help me out here? I noticed the pictures are not posted, but I clicked on the space and they appeared.

Locle is a town in Switerzland where several famous pocket watch makers originated. So, you know the case is from there. The case is most likely from the late 1800's or early 1900's. I believe that the actual movement was replaced at some point in time by one from Kirksville, Mo. Thats about all I can tell ya from the info so far. If you post all of the writing on the case we might be able to give you a little more info, because it's hard to read from the pics.
Hello. I knew the case was from Switzerland. I was told by a reputable clock and watch co. here in Atlanta, many clock people would buy the cases from Europe and install movements in them. I don't think there was a watch maker in Kirksville, MO, by the name of H. M. Hart. Maybe a retailer? Here are some of the readings:
FIRST, THE READING ON THE PLATE WITH THE WINDING ARBORS, SAYS, 'PATENT LEVER, 13 JEWELS. NEXT, THE WORD, HANDS, FOLLOWED BY, N 12 511.
BELOW THAT, READS THE NAME, PAUL BOULLOD, I BELIEVE, THEN LASTLY, FROM LOCLE.
ON BACK SIDE OF THE PLATE THERE IS A SERIAL NUMBER, 12311, AND A READING THAT SAYS, 'COGNAIT', OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
ON THE PLATES OF THE MOVEMENT THERE IS THE NAME, W. M. HART, KIRKSVILLE, MO
THERE IS NO NAME ON THE DIAL.
NOW, THAT IS ALL I KNOW TO TELL. I DID APPLY A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF SILVER POLISH TO THE CASE, BUT WAS VERY CAREFUL.
THE WATCH WILL RUN FOR A PERIOD AND STOP, BUT AGAIN, IT IS NOT WOUND TO THE MAX AND IT NEEDS CLEANING AND OILING, JUST LIKE AN OLD CLOCK.
Also, I did see to capital letters on one of the panels. I think it was DB engraved in the silver.
Well, I'm stumped! I hope someone else can find some info for you because I can't seem to come up with anything. Beautiful watch! Good luck!
Hello, I'm not sure what you mean by any of your comments. 1) my watch jumped in value, what do you mean? Jumped from where to where, in value? 2) and when you say, "as a watch collector you would have some idea for what Waterbury Conn. is noted." and 3) the re-writing of the content I found, with the question marks and stuff. I'd be curious to know what point you are trying to make to me. Please explain. Jerry
Regardless, I've already sold the watch.
Well, I was thinking the same thing, about being rare, but I listed it on ebay, on my site which I've had for 10 years, with all the info and good pictures as you see here, and it sold for $101. I thought it should bring about $300.
No, he wasn't. I mean, what more info could I have had. I included a summary of the man, himself, all the info on the case and movement and great pictures. Not to mention the drawings and such of his other work. I felt like it must have been at its market value in this economy.
I know. That forced paypal thing, I hate also. Many people prefer to pay by check or MO. And let me tell you, as a seller, I'd rather have check or MO. That way, the seller stays in charge and control of the transaction. With paypal, a buyer can renig or cancel without any justification. It has happened to me several times.
