The 4 at the beginning is usually use to describe a "Military" dial with 24 hr markers.
All 4992B had a serial number starting with 4C, total production of 142,000 and higher..

4992B production was from 1942 to 1966?. 4992B production at the end of WWII was about 95,000 more were made during the cold war,and even 'Nam.

The myth about the "Officer's Model" 4992B in the Coin Silver Case, is just that, a Myth. in April 1943 the spec's were changed to allow the use of a "non-critical" alloy, in order to conserve Nickel, the major component of "Base Metal". Remember the Steel Pennys made in 1943? same deal, trying to save copper there... All 4992Bs in silver cases should have serial numbers from "43 ... and over 11,000 were made.
As of 1957 the total production for the 4992B 24 hour Master Navigational Watch was 119,739. The 3992B 12 hour Master Navigational Watch was 2,494.

Unscrewing the back and inspection of the movement and serial # will tell the tell. Hope this info will steer you in the right direction. A photo of the movement would help in determing what model you have
