      thunderglass or in dutch donderglas indeed a primitive barometer,fill halfway with water hang it on the wall and you will see the difference in waterlevel during high pressure and low pressure in the atmosphere,good luck

      thank you all for the answer. i would have never got that one. but this was good news since i have been collecting vintage barometers for a couple of years now. it now hangs beside my other pieces. thanks again to all.
