This stein has been in our family for as long as I can remember. My son was playing with it and when I took it away I got to thinking that I know nothing about it. I remember when I was a kid I thought of prying the coins off so I could buy ice cream from the ice cream truck. Never did though. Don't really know anything about it. Don't even know for sure if it is a beer stein. It has GESETZLICH stamped on the bottom. And underneath that it has GESCHUTZT. Below that I believe is a logo for Gebrüder Baumann. Only a party of it is clear. Doesn't look worn off or anything just looks like it wasn't stamped very well. The coins are different varieties such as Maximillan II Koenig V. Bayern and Wilhelm Koenig Von Preussen. Some of the dates are 1861, 1867, 1863, 1869. It also has a mark around the outer rim. Not sure what it is made from. Not even sure if the coins are real.
If someone could give me something to Google I would really appreciate it.
This is a pottery stein made by Reinhold Hanke circa 1900. The mold number is 1262. In mint condition the price range is $250 to $350, but your stein looks like it has some issues, particularly the lid.
