Antique spoon or ladle. I am trying to figure out any other information on it such as a possible date or type of metal. It has some resemblance to copper but could possibly be pewter. The property is was found on was inhabited in the 1700's and possibly earlier. I found it while metal detecting and it was around ten inches deep, which would definitely make it older, I just have no clue how old. It is 7 inches long by 2 and 3/4 inches wide. Obviously if ladle were fully intact it would be slightly longer and wider. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Any visible hallmarks on it?
Welcome to CW and thank you for your service Marine
No visible hallmarks anywhere possibly because it is so corroded. It has a design going around the upper handle that is non symmetrical which would leave me to believe that it was hand forged by a black smith.
Thank you for your welcome to CW and your military appreciation. I just started metal detecting as a hobby, so hopefully I will be posting more of my finds on here to get information about them.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
