      Thanks for that...it's far too slim to hold cigarettes, they would be squashed - I'm still puzzled???

      Dimensions...external 85mm high x 70mm wide (closed). The internal depth is only a couple of mm and would not fit a cigarette as previous donors have suggested. There are what appear to be two retainers on the clasp side which may have had a strap or similar attached??

      Google vintage silver calling card case & look at the images.
      If you can get an image of the hallmarks that would help identify it's origin etc..

      I don't have time right now to search further , but you can check out this site on hallmarks.

      The first mark is makers mark, next one city of mfg. lion could be Birmingham?
      last of the four marks is year
