I think i can guess how these were used. They can be screwed into the ground and can hold a chain between the two in order to fence off a section. But what are they called and what exactly were they used for? Each is about 5 ft tall and they appear to be forged and have the section which is painted yellow on them - for visibility, maybe?
Don't know where else these are used but they are often used for anchour points for aircraft. The length you have must be for sandy soil. Great, if you are a smuggler. Want to sell them? LOL
hi petey and blunderbuss2. although they work like a hand auger, i don't think that's their purpose. that's what is used to anchor them, but the tall piece above the auger is key. also, on one, the top is completely looped over and closed against the stem, whereas the other is open against the stem. i think that is for a chain or rope to connect them. i have several hand augers. they are much more efficient at making holes than these are.
Like B'buss said, they are ground anchors, for those items that you don't want running or blowing away.
land anchors, blunder and walksoftly got it!
i agree phildavidalexandermorris. it sucks when i'm trying to grow things and the land keeps flying away!
^lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They look like old ice fishing augers, to make a hole in the ice. Love it! =)
