This is a simple but nice 14K (Duch hallmark 585 for 14K) yellow heart gold ring with the initial C . The point here is the way it was made adjustable and why. Did there is anybody who knows this kind of "method" and reason? Have you any idea? Please let me know?

Agram, I have seen that method before and I think it could be late Victorian or Edwardian. I just can't seem to find any info on the internet about it. The system your ring has is far more comfortable than the system you see nowadays. I always hurt my skin with the more modern system. With yours that isn't possible. But it needs more material and maybe thats why they dont make it like that anymore.

Here's my thoughts on that: during the late Victorian and Edwardian times, many manufacturers strived to make mass-market jewelry as inexpensively as possible and sold them through mail orders, and if a ring is adjustable, it could potentially be suitable for many more customers without the expense of custom sizing or risk of returns for fit..

davyd286, thanks for your interesting explanation. This is a very practical and inexpensive solution to the problem size. I thought it was such a solid construction. Thanks again, very enlightening!
